Description

The FP-1B paper drill single hole puncher is perfect for offices, schools, or anyone else who wants the convenience of a high-capacity paper punch, without the expense of an electric machine. Simple to set up and operate, anyone in your office will be able to quickly and conveniently punch holes through 1" thick stacks of paper. Compared to a standard manual hole puncher, this manual hole drilling machine will out-perform in every way, drastically increasing speed.

The FP-1B Filepecker hole punch is ideal for one and two-hole punching. It can accomplish three-hole punching as well (or any number of holes, really), but the back gauge guide and smaller table make those holes a bit more difficult to accomplish. It works great with uncoated paper stock of many kinds, but is not recommended by the manufacturer for laminated or coated papers. Watch our FP-1B video to learn more about the capabilities of this hole punching machine.

Included Accessories & Tools

  1. 1/4" drill bit (installed).
  2. 1/4" drill bit (stored in the waste bin at back of machine).
  3. Punch pad round (installed).
  4. Punch pad round (stored in the waste bin at back of machine).
  5. Adjustable and removable back gauge paper guide.
  6. Allen wrench for drill bit change (stored in the waste bin at the back of the machine)

How to Use the FP-1B Paper Drill Hole Punch

  1. Install the Back Gauge / Paper Guide - Loosen the knobs on the side of the machine and move the washers with the knob. Choose the depth you want for your holes, and align the metal back gauge to the guide printed on the base of the machine accordingly. Then tighten the knobs on the side of the machine to hold it in place.
  2. Set your Paper Size - Now choose where you want the holes to be on your paper, and set the back gauge paper guide accordingly.
  3. Prepare your Stack - Place your stack of paper against the back gauge. Make sure the stack is square. Press down on the paper clamp to hold the stack in place (note: without pressing the clamp, you risk breaking the bit, and the capacity will be drastically affected).
  4. Punch your Pages - Using both hands for leverage, pull down on the handle slowly in one smooth motion to punch all the way through the stack. Release the handle and press the tabs on the clamp to release it.

FP-1B Tips and Tricks for Success

  1. Always use the Clamp - If you forget to push down the clamp, you run the risk of not only breaking the drill bit, but also noticing a drastic difference in capacity and difficulty punching. These added stressors can also be dangerous for your users, so this is a very important step.
  2. Only Punch Uncoated Paper - This paper drill does great with uncoated paper stocks, but it is not the ideal choice for laminated or coated stocks. For those solutions, consider a different paper drill.
  3. 3- Hole Punching - The compact table width and back gauge guide do not allow for 3-hole punching without a little fiddling. We recommend first punching the center hole, then measuring out and marking your paper where the outside holes should go. Standard US 3-holes are 4-1/4" apart, center to center. Then remove the paper guides from the backgauge and visually align that mark with the drill bit. Once in place, push down the clamp and hold your paper steady. Since you only have one guide holding your stack, it can misalign fairly easily, so you want to carefully lay the stack down, or even place an item similar in height to the table itself (3/4") to hold the paper level with the table. Gently pull the handle to punch through the stack, making sure the pages remain in place. Then repeat for the third hole. Watch the video for a visual sample of this method.
  4. Storage - To create the most compact storage solution, remove the back gauge guide and pull down the handle, placing the attached ribbon around the handle to hold it in the down position. Place all accessories into the waste bin and twist the knobs on the side of the machine to hold the waste bin in place. We recommend you keep the original packaging to protect the machine from dust.

How to Change the Drill Bit

Whether taking the drill bit out to empty it completely of chads, or to replace a dull bit, or to simply the hole size, you can follow these steps. Please keep in mind that drill bits are incredibly sharp, so great care should be taken when handling.

  1. Remove the Installed Bit - Use the included allen wrench to loosen the installed drill bit from the front. Make sure your fingers are not below the bit, and grab the bit from the shaft so it does not drop. It will slide out easily once loosened. Lift it up through the clamp, and store properly.
  2. Install the New Bit - Just repeat the uninstall steps backwards. Place the bit, sharp end down, through the clamp and lift up into the slot. Once it stops, use the allen wrench to tighten the bit into place. Make sure the bit is installed securely.

* Always be careful when handling drill bits; they are very sharp. The manufacturer specifies maximum capacity is 1" thick, however, this vary depending on paper stock, book thickness, operator ability, and other factors.
