Description

Pouch boards are one of our best-selling products in the laminating/mounting field. But what exactly is a pouch board? They are a convenient tool that essentially combines a mount board, a laminate pouch, and a mounting adhesive into one piece. These boards have a laminate sheet attached to one side, sealed to the short end of the board. Simply lift the laminate sheet to insert your print below, peel off the adhesive liner, and seal your print using pressure (or a board-compatible cold mounting/laminating machine). With just pressure, the adhesive below the print activates, along with the adhesive on the laminate itself, to mount and laminate in one step. Pouch mounting boards are a cost-effective solution that not only saves you money, but also a lot of time. Instead of adding adhesive to your boards (step one), then mounting your print to the adhesive (step 2), and then applying a laminate to the print (step 3), pouchboards get it all done in one run.

These particular pouch boards are made with an extra-strong gator board, instead of the traditional foam core. Gator pouch boards offer a heavier duty solution that is more resistant to dents, cuts, and punctures. These heavy duty boards have a hard Luxcell surface and are most popular for professional photo mounters and artists, exhibit builders, engineers, and anyone else who needs a board that can withstand heavy handling and offer a premium finish. The adhesive on these boards is cold (also called pressure-sensitive), which means it is already tacky to the touch and you simply peel off the liner to apply your document. They are available in either black or white, 3/16" thick, and in either 18" x 24.5" or 24" x 36.5" sheet sizes. The laminate is attached to one short end of one side of the board, and has an elegant soft matte finish that can help reduce glare while offering a premium look.

Polar Smart Laminator: Mounting onto Foamboard

Transcript: Today we're going to mount a print to an adhesive board using the Polar Smart Laminator. The first thing we will do is tack down our print by removing an inch of the liner to expose the adhesive on the leading edge. Here we're using straight edge to tear it, but you could fold it back as well. Next, we pull down the polar align edge to make a 90 degree corner with a laminator and position our board in the corner. Today we're going to mount a print to an adhesive board using the Polar Smart Laminator. Now we can place our print on top, and because the adhesive is only at the leading edge, we can move our print around until it is aligned. Then we'll tack it down with a swipe across the leading edge. Now we're ready to remove the rest of the liner. We do this by inserting the tacked print into the laminator and feed the print between the rolls and the media guide, and then close the guide. Now we can remove the rest of the liner without worrying about our print or board as they're held in place. Now that we remove the liner, all we have to do is roll down our print. You can see that the media guide holds our print in perfect position for professional mount. There you have it. We've mounted a print professionally in under two minutes.

All the films we use have UV inhibitors and are of professional quality. The next step is to close the media guide to hold the film in place. Now we can place our print on the board, because the cover sheet is still on the pouch board. We can move our print until we have it exactly where we want it. Now, all we have to do is turn the handle to roll down the film, and we have laminated our print. Our next step is to adhere or mount our laminated print to the foam board. Our first step is to peel back the laminated print and again, place it between the media guide and the rollers, and then close the media guide. Now we can remove the cover sheet from the foam board to expose the adhesive on the board. The surface of the board is now tacky. Now we just roll down our print to mount it to the board and we're done. We've professionally mounted and laminated print in about two minutes.

The polar cub is compact, and when the front and rear tables are folded up for storage, the cub is only 11 inches wide and 12 inches tall. To use the Polar Cub, take off the clamps and place the front and rear tables on a flat surface. They are sturdy and made from steel. The exciting new feature on the Polar Cub is the media guide, which holds prints in position so one person can easily mount and laminate larger prints. The media guide can also be easily removed with its spring clip and features a silicon strip which will not mark prints. The rolls on the Polar Cub are also silicon coated and are hard to generate high pressure for glass like lamination results. The Polar Cub now works with boards up to one inch thick to set the pressure, just turn the handles on the sides until the gap between the rollers equals your board thickness. To roll down your prints, just turn the handle. The Polar Cub is a simple rugged laminator which will give you years of professional results.
